Penile Implant

A penile implant is an option for men with erectile dysfunction who do not respond to medications or other treatments, or for some men with Peyronie’s disease.

Implants enable men with erectile dysfunction to have satisfactory erections for sexual activity. Men with implants should still be able to have orgasms if they were able to before the surgery. Penile implants have the highest patient and partner (96%) satisfaction of all ED treatments.

The physician can implant one of two types of penile devices: malleable (bendable) or inflatable.

Malleable implants produce a permanently firm penis when desired.

This device consists of two bendable rods that are surgically placed in the erectile tissue (corpora cavernosa). With it, the patient can simply move the penis into the desired position.

You can adjust the position of the penis and, therefore, the rods for intercourse, then position it downward afterwards. Adjustment does not affect the width or length of the penis.

An inflatable implant is a self-contained, fluid-filled system composed of two cylinders. This provides you the ability to inflate the device to create an erection and deflate the device when you no longer want an erection (leaving the penis in a more natural state).

An inflatable implant comes in two- or three-piece models, including a reservoir and pump that are implanted in the man’s body.

The patient presses a pump button hidden in the scrotum. The pump transfers fluid from the reservoir to the cylinders in the penis, inflating them and causing an erection. The patient can restore the penis to a flaccid state by pressing a deflation valve at the base of the pump, which returns the fluid to the reservoir.

The implant allows for a consistent erection and has a patient/partner satisfaction rate of more than 90%.
