Radiopharmaceutical Therapies

New cancer-fighting medications are continually being developed. These are most commonly used to treat advanced prostate cancer:

  • Xofigo is an intravenous injection that targets cancer cells in the bone. It’s specifically for men with castration-resistant prostate cancer that has spread to the bones.
  • Pluvicto is an intravenous infusion for men with PSMA-positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer that has spread beyond the prostate gland.
Imaging

Various imaging techniques are used to diagnose cancer and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment. At our Cancer Care Center you’ll find:

  • PSMA PET/CT Imaging: Can detect prostate cancer with remarkable precision.
  • CT (Computed Tomography): Uses X-rays from different angles to create detailed cross-sectional images, good for bones, organs, tumors.
  • MRI: Uses magnets and radio waves for detailed 3D images.
  • PET: Detects metabolic activity by using a radioactive tracer that accumulates in rapidly growing cancer cells.
  • Ultrasound: Uses sound waves to create images.
  • X-rays and Mammography

Meet Dr. Barry Gardner

Our care team is led by Barry Gardner, MD. He specializes in treating all types of cancer using advanced techniques including IMRT/IGRT, high dose rate and low dose rate Brachytherapy, and radio-immunotherapy.

A board-certified radiation oncologist with more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Gardner’s impressive background includes:

  • Harvard Medical School Chief Resident, Radiation Oncology
  • Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, General Surgery Residency
  • Graduated medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences School of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland
